DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
The aim of a Deep Tissue Massage is to soften and unlock stiff and cramped muscles which can occur from day to day repetitive tasks, poor posture and imbalances or even stress. Deep Tissue Massage will help realign and soften the muscles and body into a more healthy position.
WHAT IS DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE?
Deep tissue massage is a deeper form of massage therapy that can specifically target deep structures such as muscles and fascia. It's generally used for chronic aches, pains and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.
Deep tissue massage can reduce muscular tightness by increasing tissue elasticity and reducing the presence of active trigger points which can be caused by physical activity, poor posture, repetitive strain, overuse and stress. If left untreated, tight muscles can escalate and cause chronic pain, reduced range of movement and limited flexibility.
Deep tissue massage techniques are used to break up scar tissue and physically break down muscle "knots" or adhesions that can disrupt circulation and cause pain, limited range of motion, and inflammation. This will increase tissue elasticity by promoting relaxation plus achieving better blood circulation.

Why choose On Point for Deep Tissue Massage?
As a society, we are spending far more time in jobs that require us to be sat for long periods, and this goes for our leisure time, too. Long periods of improper sitting have been linked to the development of lower back pain and this has been linked to increased disk pressure, stretching of ligaments and an impaired nerve function.
At On Point our goal is not only to alleviate your aches and pains but to analyse your posture and daily routine and make adjustments to help stop any problem reoccurring.
FAQs
What’s the difference between a deep tissue and sports massage?
Sports massages and deep tissue massages are both excellent ways to help active people recover from injuries and help promote overall health. The two offer a slight difference. Sports massages targets specific areas related to the individuals sport or activity, while deep tissue massages works deeply into all muscles.
How does deep tissue massage work?
When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.
Does deep tissue massage hurt?
A Deep Tissue Massage doesn’t have to be painful. But there is often times during the massage using certain techniques where you may feel some discomfort. Your therapist will be in constant communication with you to ensure we keep within your personal comfort zone.
Are there any side effects?
After a deep tissue massage treatment it is common to experience sore and tired muscles. This can last up to 48 hrs depending on the current state of your muscles. This recovery time often is reduced with regular massage sessions. Although not as common another side effect can be mild bruising which some people are more susceptible to than others. Massage gets your blood circulating and begins to release built-up toxins. Headaches and a bit of nausea is a rare side effect but can be prevented by staying hydrated prior to and after a massage, this will help flush out the toxins and waste products.
